The price of procrastination

is depression. The cost of overcoming it is anxiety. When you get caught up in the cycle of inaction, you can only choose one or the other.

You have things you need to do but can’t face doing them. So instead, you do what is easy and comfortable. You give up and go to bed. You order another takeaway or drink a bottle of wine. The result is depression. You failed to do what you were supposed to, and now you feel bad.

You have things to do that you can’t face doing but force yourself to do them. You feel anxious and irritable. All you want to do is stop to do something else. The familiar beckons, the wine sings, but you persevere.

The difference is like night and day. The latter is far better than the former.

Thanks to James Hollis for the inspiration.
