The Best Thing About Writing That No One Ever Told You

Tom C

--

Someday after a lot of effort and frustration, you may come to realise something very big.

Something so profound it may miss you completely.

Don’t take its simplicity for weakness. No sir, it’s something that once known cannot be unknown.

Perhaps some of us already knew it, or maybe some of us had to climb a million mountains to grasp it or type a million words to see it, but when it does finally come home you’ll know it because it feels so true.

That thing is this:

One time in the not-so-distant future you will read something you wrote that you like, something you’re proud of. Other people will have liked it too.

And you’ll realise to yourself, maybe for the first time, that you have something.

Something valuable you never thought you had.

A voice.
