The structure of your life entails that you work and live to the principle of the path of least resistance.

The older you get the more entrenched the grooves.

We end up moving through life without any conscious idea of what we are doing. We just do it. Automatically. Like driving.

We trade our dreams for comfort. Our potential for ease.

Waking up to this fact of life and changing things up, should be done, regularly.

Sometimes we wake up in the middle of the night. We wake up in the realest sense of the word. The veil comes off and we have perfect clarity. We are sleep waking towards death with nothing to show for it.

Except mediocrity.

This is that terrifying thought. The one that holds up the mirror. The truth that you cannot stand to see.

We go back to sleep. We wake up the next day still asleep. Until the thoughts come back. Maybe in a year or two. Maybe in ten. Until we know deep down change is never going to happen.

So we stay asleep for the rest of our lives. Allowing the usual excuses of age, children and responsibilities to lull us back to slumber. To avoiding thinking at all costs.

A mid life crisis is the culmination of these thoughts. We get through it. Maybe make an extreme swerve in the opposite direction. We become the laughing stock of our friends and family when we buy a Porsche and dress younger. This is a reaction. Not a strategic shift in direction.

The solution is simple. The solution is deciding in your heart that you will not stay asleep. You will snap out of your comfort zone and you will continue to learn and evolve until the day you die. This is how you stay young. This is how you keep vitality until your old age. You refuse. You refuse to become the victim of entropy and exhaustion.

It is that simple. The hardship is in the doing. Your body and mind will scream at you. Homeostasis will want its way with you. Pick him up and throw him out of the window. Preferably out of a high one.

The options are endless. You can travel. Become a mountaineer at 70. Start getting fitter. You can start to understand the block chain. NFT’s and digital real estate. Start writing. Blogging and novels. Go to film school and learn shoot movies and documentaries. Go to law school and represent under privileged kids in court.

The only thing standing in the way of a rich and varied life is you. You can change all of that with one decision. You can make that decision any time. Reinvent yourself.

One ship sails East,
And another West,
By the self-same winds that blow,
’Tis the set of the sails
And not the gales,
That tells the way we go.
